Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages commemorates Mandela Day across the Cape

Fri, Jul 19 2024

CCPB honours Mandela Day with heartfelt donations, food drives, and support for local heroes, echoing Madiba’s legacy of compassion and unity.

In the spirit of Mandela Day, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages (CCPB) has handed over essential rainsuits to the dedicated Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) rangers. The ceremony was hosted at the Tokai Manor House (SANParks offices) on Mandela Day.

“This handover aimed to honour the tireless efforts of the park rangers who are crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of all visitors to our beautiful natural parks,” says Priscilla Urquhart, Head of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability at CCPB.

“We handed over 67 rainsuits which was the result of a series of fundraising activities spearheaded by the CCPB Hearts (staff members of CCPB), and then boosted by the company funding the balance. This demonstrates our commitment to supporting local heroes and speaks to our purpose of making a difference that matters,” she says.

Megan Taplin, park manager for the Table Mountain National Park, expressed her gratitude for the donation.

“We are very thankful to CCPB for their thoughtful donation. These rainsuits are essential for our rangers especially given the cold and wet winters we experience in Cape Town. This support ensures that our team can continue their work keeping our parks safe and accessible for all, while staying dry themselves."

Beyond this, CCPB has embracing the true spirit of Mandela Day with various impactful initiatives also planned for the day.

This includes:

  • The CCPB South team raised a total of R13,000, using the funds to purchase nonperishable items. These items are pre-packed by the CCPB team and distributed to communities in Heideveld, Manenberg, Khayelitsha, Philippi, and surrounding areas.
  • The CCPB North team dedicated their 67 minutes for Madiba to the Durbanville Homeless Support Centre, spending time with the homeless and supporting the centre with their food drive.
  • The CCPB Manufacturing team conducted a soup kitchen donation drive leading up to Mandela Day and will be bringing charity back home to feed the daily casual workforce who are less fortunate.
  • The AIS (CCPB’s tech and IT staff) team raised much-needed funds for the Athlone House of Strength, a non-profit organisation based in Paarl, who rely on donations to provide shelter and care for abused women and their children. Funds were raised through various raffles to purchase necessities they require.
  • The CCPB Country team will be engaging with communities in Rawsonville to hand out food parcels and clothing items to communities affected by the recent storms.
  • The CCPB Special Events team is supporting all these initiatives with refreshing hydration and logistics.

Annually, CCPB also partners with Food Forward SA packing food parcels, the beloved local chef Jenny Morris and her soup kitchen at the Salesians Youth Centre, and the inspiring Ladles of Love NPO that aims to set a new record every year in the number of beneficiaries touched. Together, we are aiming to uplift and bring meaningful change to communities in need.

“Our collective efforts reflect our dedication to making a positive impact, inspired by the legacy of Nelson Mandela in the spirit of Ubuntu and caring for our communities,” Urquhart said.

“Internally, CCPB teams have come together with great enthusiasm, raising funds and dedicating their efforts to spread Madiba’s magic far and wide. This united approach underscores our ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community support.”

CCPB is dedicated to making a positive difference in the communities it serves. Through all outreach, CCPB focuses on sustainability, community upliftment, and supporting local heroes who contribute to the well-being of society.
