Thirsty for victory? CCPB’s mega hydration effort pours out 200,000 litres of refreshing drinks and 50 tons of ice to keep Cape Town Cycle Tour riders racing strong.

Cape Town is gearing up for another exciting edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday, 9 March, when thousands of cyclists take to the city’s scenic roads. The event is not only a highlight on the sporting calendar but also a celebration of endurance, camaraderie, and the unwavering support from spectators who line the route to cheer on the riders.

As the official hydration partner, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages (CCPB) is proud to play a role in keeping cyclists refreshed throughout the race. This partnership with The Cycle Tour Trust spans almost 25 years.

The funds will see:

  1. 100 school bags donated to Kewtown Primary School where many learners struggle to afford school essentials. Some children attend classes without bags, often leaving their books behind due to a lack of storage. This donation aims to ensure that every learner will have a bag to carry their learning materials.
  2. Stationery provided to Lentegeur LSEN School, which caters for learners with special educational needs, helping them access the tools they need for their education.

More than 50, 000kg of ice will be used to chill 100,000 litres of water, 30,000 litres of Powerade, and 30,000 litres of Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola No Sugar at the 16 hydration stations along the route, helping riders stay energised and hydrated as they push through the kilometres ahead.

“This event is a true testament to the incredible spirit of Cape Town – from the cyclists who train for months to the supporters who create an electric atmosphere on race day,” says Marc Odendaal Commercial Sports and Marketing Assets Lead for CCPB. “As a company deeply invested in the region, we are proud to support not just the athletes, but the communities that make events like these possible.”

Sustainability remains a priority, with CCPB ensuring that all packaging at hydration stations is collected and recycled responsibly. Working closely with the City of Cape Town and other local partners, the goal is to leave as small a footprint as possible while making a big impact on hydration and support.

“Whether you're cycling, cheering from the sidelines, or simply taking in the excitement, this Sunday promises to be another unforgettable day in the Mother City,” said Odendaal.

Note to editors: The CCPB activations and logistics team will roll out on Saturday night from the Parow HQ to set up the 16 hydration and refreshments stations around the route. This tireless and hardworking CCPB team which includes more than 350 people, are on the go for 12 - 24 hours non-stop and we salute our Special Events team for their efforts every year.
