Massive cash boost to help Cape Town learners thrive

Mon, Mar 03 2025

Two Cape Town schools receive a vital educational lifeline as CCPB donates R28,000 worth of school bags and stationery to eager learners.

Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages (CCPB) has given local education a major boost, with employees from the South team raising more than R14 000 to support two primary schools in need. The fundraising efforts were doubled through the CCPB CSI Community Budget, bringing the total donation to more than R28 000.

The CCPB South Team based in Athlone, are passionate about giving back and identified Kewtown Primary School and Lentegeur LSEN (Learners with Special Educational Need) School as beneficiaries, ensuring that learners receive essential school supplies to support their education.

The funds will see:

  1. 100 school bags donated to Kewtown Primary School where many learners struggle to afford school essentials. Some children attend classes without bags, often leaving their books behind due to a lack of storage. This donation aims to ensure that every learner will have a bag to carry their learning materials.
  2. Stationery provided to Lentegeur LSEN School, which caters for learners with special educational needs, helping them access the tools they need for their education.

“The two schools were chosen based on employee nominations,” said Priscilla Urquhart, Head of Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability at CCPB. “Kewtown Primary in Athlone is in an area affected by high crime, gang activity, and gender-based violence. One of our team members identified the school as a no-fee institution in need of support, and CCPB stepped in to bring hope to the community. Lentegeur LSEN School was nominated by another employee whose children are enrolled there, recognising the school’s dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment.”

Urquhart emphasised the company’s passion for educational initiatives: "At Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. By supporting these schools, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners, providing them with the tools they need to build a brighter future."

The handover took place on 27 February 2025 at the Retail Academy at the CCPB offices in Athlone. This latest community initiative reflects CCPB’s ongoing commitment to empowering communities and making a difference that matters.
