TOTALSPORTS WOMEN’S RACE STELLENBOSCH ATTRACTS AN ELITE FIELD

Stellenbosch – Taking place in Stellenbosch on Monday, 10 August 2015, the Totalsports Women’s Race has attracted the attention of an array of elite runners including the likes of René Kalmer, Mapaseka Makhanya, Cornel Joubert, Lebo Phalula and Yolande Maclean.

According to Kalmer, Stellenbosch is one of her favourite cities in South Africa. “I can’t think of a better place to celebrate National Women's Day. I’ve been battling with a hip injury, so this will be a good test of my fitness. I will be really happy to have a pain free race. Running a 33 minute, 10km race would be a bonus”.

Makhanya, Joubert and Phalula will make their Totalsports Women’s Race Stellenbosch debut on the day.

“I’ve heard that the 10km route is fast,” says Makhanya. “My goal is to do my best and enjoy the race as much as possible. I will be my toughest competition. I always want to do better than the last race”.

According to Joubert, she placed first at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Johannesburg in 2013, but has yet to compete in Stellenbosch. “My goal is to finish in the top five. Anything better will be a bonus. It’s great that the event is held in honour of women and it’s really nice to have PinkDrive involved as we’re reminded about the importance of looking after ourselves”.

PUMA ambassador, Lebo Phalula recently shared a victory with her twin sister, Lebogang at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban completing the 10km route in 33 minutes 44 seconds. “I would like to break a South African road record, so time will be my most challenging competitor. It’s a privilege to have a race that is specifically for women. It motivates us to stay healthy, and encourages women to never give up”.
